Strategy
Similar to other sites of this nature, it is critical to identify value in players.
In this scoring system, defensemen are of little relative value, so your best bet is to spend the absolute minimum possible on this position.
The prices change from week to week, but you can generally find some pretty good players at the bottom of the price list, so start there. Unlike other sites,
Fantazzle doesn't offer every player in the league. They limit it to the top 50 or so at each position.
If you're playing in the weekly format, the first thing to do is check out our
Daily File page and get a read on each team's schedule. The more games
your players have, the more opportunity for points. With goalies, it's also worth noting if those games are back-to-back, as goalies tend to sit out one of the two.
If you have a team with 3 or 4 games spread throughout the week, it's a good place to target for your goalies.
Rosters for Fantazzle play 2 goalies, 2 defensemen, 3 centers and 3 wingers. They do not break it down by left wing / right wing.
When setting your lineup, start at the goalie position. Most of your points will come from wins and low goals against. Don't focus as much on saves. If you
check out the "Leading Scorers" tab for this site, you'll see the top goalies correlate pretty closely with the leaders in wins. So, focus on winning goalies.
Don't assume the highest price tag is the best option. You can find good value in the middle and even toward the bottom of the scale. Check out the
"Players To Target" for ideas on who to target.
Next, identify the 2 cheapest defensemen that have any hope of getting you points.
In general, you're wasting your money buy placing a mid to top level defenseman on your roster.
If you're used to adding some bias towards penalty minutes, get that out of your head for this site. PIMs mean nothing. It's all about points, and unfortunately,
plus-minus. Get a cheap option on a high-scoring team if you can.
After filling your crease and blueline, it's time to spend your money where it matters most, on offense.
If you've spent wisely on the backend, you should have plenty of cash to splurge on your offense. The 1,000,000 budget is fairly generous given the player
salaries on Fantazzle. As long as you squeeze in one or two value picks, you can go to town with your remaining 4 or 5 forwards. It's easy to throw together
an All-Star lineup, so once again, you're helping yourself out by picking skaters with the most games on the schedule. An average forward like Rick Nash may get you
more in 4 games than Evgeni Malkin will in 2, and he'll come in at a lower cost.
Once you've filled your roster, check how much cap space you have remaining.
Take a look at your cheaper options one by one and see how much of an upgrade you make with what you have left.
